| got to meet gordon at black and gold
I had some free time yesterday so i decided to make a trip up to black and gold guns. A few weeks ago gordon helped me with some information on a Winchester model 1973 that i picked up a few weeks ago and i wanted him to see it in person. Well first off gordon and the other guys are great really nice and helpful people. He looked and mine and showed me some of his collection of old guns. I also had a few questions about a 1911 i picked up a while back. he took the time to look it over and we found out i needed a new return spring. He didnt have one but he got on the phone and with in a few min. found me one down the road from him. Gordon also took the time to show me how to polish the gun since its stainless steel. He started polishing the gun for me to show me how its done and then let me use his polishing buffer to work it over some more while he handled other stuff. although i didnt spend alot of money in his shop he and his staff treated me as though i had bought 10 guns from them. these guys are great people with great service. I highly recommend dropping by to see them when you have a chance. Thanks again gordon. |

| After all the feed back from members of this board I guess I'm going to have to buy me next gun from them. I've gone into some gun shops in the Houston area with money to burn and couldn't get the time of day from the grumps behind the counter. |

Understatement of the day. |
My wife and I just got back from taking the CHL class at Black Gold Guns & Ammo today and it was great!! Johnny was the instructor and he was amazing. Not a dull moment in the entire 10 hours class and we thought we'd be bored. We cannot not believe how much we learned and we've both been shooting for over 40 plus years, and we thought we knew all there was to know. Gordon, Charles, Jimmy and Johnny ALL taught both my wife and I a LOT. We got to browse through their vast array of guns during breaks and we even found one handgun that no other gun shop in Houston has right now, (I'd tell You which one but it's sold out everywhere else and I want to go back and buy it), and it was priced way below Academy's price and they won't be getting any in for a couple months according to Academy's manager. Thanks to everyone at Black Gold Guns & Ammo my wife and I feel totally prepared to get our CHL and have a bright new outlook on CHL altogether. A special Thank You to Gordon for letting my wife use his Sig for the shooting part of the class after she forgot hers. She says his gun make her get a lot better score than she could have with her own gun. We both highly recommend going to Black Gold Guns & Ammo to take the CHL class. Not only did we learn a lot but we were treated great and we both had a really fun time taking the class. We're both very impressed with their gun shop and everyone who works there too. If You're going to take a CHL class this IS the place to go!! You will not regret it. These guys do an awesome job and You will not be bored!! We'd feel a lot safer if everyone took their CHL class here!! Even if You're not going to carry we recommend taking the class for your own safety and benefit. Thanks Black Gold Guns & Ammo for a great experience we will never forget!!

| Big Problem At Black Gold Guns and Ammo!
Today was my birthday so my amazing wife takes me to Black Gold to buy a new handgun since I had my old one stolen from my truck. I call in advance and speak to Gordon who assures me he has plenty of the small, easy to carry guns I wanted to check out and since I was a 2Cooler he was going to take care of me! BTW ... thanks 2 Coolers for all of your info on my previous thread about small, easy carry models.
Based on Gordon's claims my wife and I drive all the way from Sugar Land to their location off of the North Loop, passing a half dozen credible gun shops. So, we get there and the problems start as soon as we walk in the door. First thing Gordon isn't there but another guy (sorry I can't remember his name) greets us cordially and welcomes us to the shop. He asks what I was looking for and I tell him that I spoke to Gordon earlier. He says ... "you're the birthday guy right? From 2Cool?" Yep!
Well, for the next hour this guy takes great care of me and my wife showing us every appropriate model that fits what I told him my needs are. He displays and incredible array of knowledge on each model and professionally shares with me the pluses and minuses of each. I get to hold each, see how they feel in my hand, check out the trigger feel. Discuss revolvers vs semi auto, calibers, lasers (btw ... the laser on the Bodyguard is cool but almost impossible to operate with a single finger making it all but useless in my eyes) and every question I, and my wife, had.
I got to take the time to put each model in my pocket and sit a spell on their couch to see how it felt and make sure I was comfortable. Couldn't have done that at Academy I am sure. Even then he shows me a really sweet Tagua paddle holster and how smooth it fit under my pullover.
In the end I wind up buying the Taurus TCP .380, the paddel holster, 2 boxes of pratice ammo and one box of personal defense butt kickers (I pray never get used!). It turned out to be the least expensive gun in the group that fit my hand. Incidentally I would have bought the Bodyguard if the laser had been what I considered functional.
Also, on a side note, about half way through Gordon shows up and, having never met me, picks me out as "the birthday boy" comes shakes my hand and treats me like we have been friends forever! He also works with my guy to make sure I get the 2Cooler discount.
All in all an extraordinary experience I would highly recommend to anyone looking for firearms, ammo or just an opportunity to shoot the bull with a great bunch of guys! Would drive twice the distance had I known it would be such a delightful transaction!
So, what's the problem you ask? Well, not too many threads on 2Cool get a lot of traction unless there is something to beach about and I couldn't come up with anything!
Thanks to Gordon and the gang at Black Gold for being a part of a great 5?th birthday!
PS .. you should have seen the look on their faces when, after my pouring over the guns for an hour and finally deciding what to buy, my wife whips out a handful of cash and counts out the bills to pay for it all. Did I mention I am married to one fantastic bride? |

I am very passionate about this - Take a CHL Class!
I posted this earlier tonight on another thread that was started a couple of days ago that has gone dormant. I feel so strongly about my experience today that I want to share with folks that have been putting off a CHL class, like I have for the last 10 years. Being retired military, I though I knew all about when to engage a bad guy, but I was wide-eyed and ears open to every word today.
I'm sure many of you felt the same passion and renewed responsibility after taking your CHL class.
This is about the class that I attended today at BlackGoldGuns.
-------------------------------- That class today was EXCELLENT! Randy (instructor) really shows his passion for doing it right. Whether you want to get your CHL or are just going to carry in your vehicle or keep a gun in your home, YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS FROM RANDY!
I have been carrying in my vehicle for years and though I knew what I would do in certain situations. After taking this class, it scares the heck out of me that I have carried a pistol in my vehicle without fully understanding all of the considerations of carrying. The class made me further consider my options in a situation and mentally prepared me to make the choice when to use my communication skills versus using deadly force. It is way more complicated, mentally and financially, than just "killing a bad guy".
Randy teaches lot about communicating in a stressful situation. That communication could absolutely be the difference between using deadly force and walking away with just a misunderstanding.
As a bonus, Randy teaches close combat disarming techniques if you are engaged before being able to access your weapon. It is taught on breaks in the kitchen, and rarely draws blood.
Great day, lots of fun, and very educational.
And my last thought, if you never even have any intentions of taking your CHL, or owning a gun, you should stop by BlackGoldGuns just to take a look at all of the cool stuff Gordon had accumulated. It's better than a museum.
Thanks Gordon and Randy!

I know that you are not close to there, but whatever you do, get someone that is a good teacher to take the course from. The "certificate" is only worth the paper that it is printed on, "The teaching" is invaluable.
Make sure your instructor is not just handing out certificates. "Know-it-alls" like me hate classrooms, but now I know what I didn't know and it sends chills down my spine thinking carrying is just knowing how to shoot someone. The CHL class will make you much more responsible. Today, 10:34 PM | | | | Join Date: Mar 15 2006 Location: Houston Age: 45 Posts: 1,032 Rep Power: 4661107 |
| Ty, Thanks for the nice words...I enjoy putting the class on for folks just like you. Everyone thinks about spending "all day" in a classroom, but it isn't like when you were in school ... it's way better! I enjoy the thanks I get from seeing the expression on peoples face when the day is done, knowing that the day was great for everyone and knowing that we did our part to help protect all of the good folks that we live and work with everyday. If a group of 2coolers want to come out and do a class I will make a special deal for that class. It is not just getting the license done but the extras that are thrown in that make the class truly appealing. Thanks again Ty Racer PS. if all the good folks were armed the bad guys job would not be safe! |

We had a surprise visit from some of Houston's fine employees.
These two gentlemen had a dart gun that needed a little scope adjustment. Gordon was able to sight in their air rifle and they were able to return to the hazardous duty of darting dangerous animals. Our heros stopped for a quick photo and zipped back to their jobs.
Come back anytime!

by mctowalot » Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:56 pm A friend told me about a new gun store in Houston. I like the place so much I figured it would be selfish to not share it with everybody on the forum. Check out "Black Gold Guns and Ammo". It's not a real big place and yet they had an amazing selection of new and used. I picked up a new Glock 30 and almost feel like I stole it! I saved enough off some of the bigger stores price I was able to afford a new holster and some ammo too. The folks there are real nice and didn't seem to mind my one million questions (of course what conversation took place once I left is unknown). They have a website under the same name. Have fun shopping. Found on texaschlforum.com

Great Gun Store!
2 coolers, I went to see Ole' Gordon at Black Gold Guns in the hieghts(713)694-4867. WoW! I learned alot just hearing him with his customers. I was impressed as we met and dicussed our business's and how we could better serve our customers. He has a sick personality, kinda like mine, I love it. The thing that impressed me ,most was when I asked for honest critism about my product, he gave it. He didn't hold back, I was grateful for that as I want to exceed my customers expectations. So thanks for the advice Gordon, I am working on that opportunity! If you haven't already done so go see him, I did, he has a huge array of neat things in his shop. Things you will not find at a local big box store. His taxidermy tastes is unusual as well, neat stuff there too. As I visited with him I watched him interact with his customers, and it seemed as if not selling, but educating was on his agenda. He has a knife sharpener there called the WartHog and man after being in the meat business for 25 years, I wish I would have had one long agao, beats the heL! out of a steel, wet stone, or a Lansky type sharpener. Gotta get one next time. I was truly impressed with this guy, and his business. Go see him. Tommy

Kudos to Racer
It was great meeting Racer and his wife at Black and Gold Guns right before Christmas. I saw another 2Cooler on the way in the shop, so there must be a lot of us out there! Got a great deal on a new Glock at a special "2Cooler Price" Racer offered in the classified. It felt like a reunion of sorts as we learned we knew a lot of the same people. It also looks like they have a really nice gun store. I picked up a new Mod. 27 with a couple of grip (mag) extensions. I put this down as being one of benefits of being a member of this forum: you get to meet and do business with a lot of great folks. Great Gun Shop! The owner Gordon is very knowledgeable regarding all types of firearms and has good connections for aftermarket mods. Black Gold features quite an eclectic selection of revolvers, semi-auto handguns, and long guns in a variety of sizes and styles tailored to suit the customer's needs. Whether you're on the market for a target pistol/revolver, a concealable firearm, or a long gun, Black Gold has it all. The store and it's inventory is small, but the selection is tough to beat. Also has some great deals on police trade-in glocks. Highly recommended! |

Cost me $45.00 down the street at republic Arms. These people are great to deal with and prices are great on guns and ammo. I rate this shop AAAAA +++++

| Winchester 1873 and Black Gold Guns and Ammo
The other day my friend comes to me and says he has a Winchester 1873 44-40 with an octagon barrel and wants to know what I think it is worth. I fell I love with the gun and he tells me it was in his famliy for years.
Well we start our own research on the internet and kind of figured out what it was worth. I wont get in the whole story but I have been a gun guru pretty much my whole life and know a lot about military and police weapons but old Winchesters, I love, but don’t know true market or history of them. I am smart enough to know my friend has got a jewel in his hands. I told him that I browsed in a collectors shop here in Houston and suggested to take it there and they could give us a hand. The most important thing what we wanted to know is the history on it. i.e. what year it was put in production, condition, and value.
We drove to the gun shop, I wont mention the store but it is one that deals in antique quality firearms here in Houston. We hook up with this young man. He takes it to the back and this older gentleman who inspects it. The young man then comes back and starts to run down my buds 121 year old rifle and tells him it worth $450 and asked him I wanted to sell it they would give me cash. I know a SCAM when I see one and these guys were playing us as FOOLS! I was so insulted I kept my mouth shut so I would not embarrass myself or make a scene. I just said give us the gun back and we walked out of the store.
I had seen Black Guns and Ammo on 2cool and even sent a friend over there to buy a Glock 23, I had seen advetised here. We stopped in and met Gordon the owner, I guess. Right away he does a full inspection of the gun and points out several good points and not so good points of the gun by explaining what collectors look for in the weapon. Truth be said it was a very educational evaluation. He then gets a book out on Winchesters and tells us it is a 1st generation 1873 by the serial number and asked us what we think the condition is. We tell him 50% and he says 60% but it has all the original parts and that was used by some sort of frontiersman and pointed out some indicators or western ware. I am loving all this because I can appreaciate the history, nostalgia, and heritage of this weapon. He calls then calls and speaks to a gun smith that was friends of my late dads. Gordon tells him we have a PEACH of a Winchester 1873 and wants to confirmation and what he has found. I wont give you his estimation but it was competetive to what we found on the interent. Gordon suggested for my buddy to go to the gun show this weekend and try to get top dollar. My bud said the gun will stay in the family and he was a PROUD owner of AMERICAN HISTORY.
Thanks for Gordon’s Help and Honesty at Black Gold Guns and Ammo! |
